The Maldives Police Service has refuted reports of officers having made an arrest in the death of Hussain Simad, whose body with grievous injuries on Sunday.
The police say they have made no arrests in Simad’s death, which they believe could possibly be murder.
39-year-old Simad’s body was found in Villingili island of Gaafu Alif atoll while his family had earlier reported him missing.
Simad, native to Hithadhoo of southernmost Addu atoll, was found with burn marks and disfiguring wounds on his face as well as body.
Simad’s family says he had received death threats over a dispute following a robbery on a safari docked near the island.
