A construction worker has been fatally injured in an accident at a site in Hulhumalé.
The accident was reported to have occurred at about 19:50 on Sunday, and police confirm that the deceased is a 44-year-old expatriate male.
The man died from injuries he sustained after having been hit by a piece of debris that fell from the fifth floor of the building under construction.
In December, a similar accident involving a falling bag of cement had fatally injured a seven-year-old girl causing scrutiny of adherence to safety code at construction sites in Malé.
In a separate accident at 23:34 on Sunday, a man sustained a head injury from a cutting board that fell from the ninth floor of a building in Galolhu ward of capital city Malé.
