Former President Abdula Yameen has decided not to field candidates to some constituencies, to back candidates of Jumhooree Party (JP).
RaajjeMV understands that JP and Yameen have held discussions regarding the upcoming parliamentary election, but JP has denied this.
RaajjeMV understands that Yameen’s Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People’s National Congress (PNC) have agreed not to run for constituencies that JP wants. This includes withdrawing Gemanafushi MP Jameel Usman for JP candidate Ali Adeel.
A rift has formed between JP and other government coalition partners after ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) announced its decision to contest almost all constituencies.
JP has decided to contest 44 constituencies while Yameen’s two parties have not made an announcement.
