“Committee Investigating Public Housing Schemes” has briefed the public on its progress as well as the observations made throughout its investigations.
At a press conference held at the President’s Office on Wednesday, the committee members stated they are currently amid the process of identifying persons responsible for the negligence in providing housing during the previous administration of Abdulla Yameen.
The issues found during their investigations include neglect of relevant documents including application forms submitted by the people under the former government’s housing schemes.
Raising concern over the neglect in filing the documents properly, the committee members stated that this resulted in the committee having to locate all application forms from various locations.
Highlighting that guidelines were not followed in awarding marks for applicants for social housing, the members stated that they noticed some undeserving applicants had received flats while the most deserving were neglected.
The committee, assembled by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to investigate the previous administration’s housing projects including “Hiyaa”, “Gedhoruveri kurun” as well as the “Gulhifalhu Housing Project”, is looking into 22,000 forms.
It had previously revealed that it will take about five months to complete the evaluation.
Further, the committee is to open a window for public complaint submissions in the near future.
The former administration had allocated 6,723 flats under the “Hiyaa” housing scheme under 12 categories.
While most applicants were under the Male’ Category, former President Abdulla Yameen’s administration had announced that 4،505 applicants were to receive flats.
