Jumhooree Party (JP) has stated that it has not discussed working with opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) in the parliamentary election.
While JP is part of the government coalition, party leader Qasim Ibrahim earlier said that he is willing to move forward in the parliamentary election with any party willing to work with them.
However, JP has not disclosed whether it has held official talks with other parties.
On Saturday, some media reports claimed that Qasim has discussed forming a coalition with PPM. Denying the claims, JP spokesperson Ali Solih said that those reports were publicized without getting a word from the party.
A rift has formed between JP and other members of the government coalition, after ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) decided to contest almost all seats in the parliamentary election.
