President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has advised Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidates to be honest when talking to their constituents and to make pledges they can fulfill.
The President said this in his speech at the MDP campaign launching ceremony for the parliamentary election on Friday night.
At the event, President Solih said that only candidates who inquire on the needs of their constituents and who have formed pledges can win the parliament seats, and added that those pledges also need to be ones they can fulfill.
He asked the candidates to be responsible once in parliament and to uphold the rights of their constituents, to hear their concerns and find solutions.
He also said that those who lost in the MDP primary election will still play an important leadership role within the party.
President Solih praised MDP for working to uphold the rights of people and the democratic process since the party’s formation.
