The first parliament sitting of 2019, where President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will give his presidential address, is to be held at Dharubaaruge.

The parliament secretariat earlier announced that the first sitting of the year is set for February 7.

This will be President Solih’s first presidential address since assuming office in November last year, as per Article 84 of the constitution; which states that “at the beginning of the first session of each year at the first sitting, the President shall address the People’s Majlis on the state of the country, and may present proposals for improving the state of the country to the People’s Majlis.”

Last year’s inaugural session was also held at Dharubaaruge, in late February.

While it was to be held on 5th February 2018, the sitting was abruptly cancelled due to “security concerns”. The same day, then-President Abdulla Yameen had declared a nation-wide state of emergency.
