Maldives Customs Service on Thursday seized a copious amount of narcotics that were to be smuggled into the Maldives from Belgium.

Customs revealed that they had opened the package that had been received through post in front of the order recipient and found 1,943 pills suspected to be narcotics, weighing 1,105g.

Upon testing, the pills proved to have traces of MDMA, a synthetic substance used recreationally.

While the drugs have been handed over to the Maldives Police Service (MPS), MPS revealed that they have launched an investigation into the case.
