Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid on Friday met with Foreign Ministers and Permanent Representatives in New York.
In his ongoing trip to the United States, Minister Shahid met with the Foreign Ministers of Belgium, Dominican Republic and Kuwait and discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation and ways to strengthen cooperation on global issues of mutual interest.
According to the foreign ministry, the Minister also met with Permanent Representatives of Fiji, Singapore, India, Japan, United Arab Emirates, Canada, Saudi Arabia, and Nigeria and held discussions on issues of mutual interest, and explored avenues for future cooperation, especially on issues of critical importance to the Maldives such as climate change.
The Foreign minister is in New York for the United Nations Security Council’s Open Debate “Addressing impacts of climate-related disasters on international peace and security”.
Minister Shahid was accompanied in the meetings by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the UN and Ambassador to the United States Ali Naseer Mohamed, and senior officials at the Permanent Mission of the Maldives to the United Nations in New York.
