Three have been injured in a dangerous road accident in capital city Male’ on Saturday night.

The accident occurred at around 11:15pm when a motorcycle riding down the ring road collided into another one attempting to turn into Buruzu Magu, in front of Senahiya.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) have reported that injured were a 17-year-old, a 19-year-old and a 21-year-old. Two out of the three, the 17-year-old who had been riding one of the motorcycles, and the 21-year-old who had been sitting in the backseat of the other motorcycle, are in serious condition.

While they were rushed to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for treatment, the hospital is yet to reveal the extent of their injuries.

RaajjeMV understands that the region in which the accident occurred was stained in blood.

Neither of the riders aged 17 and 19 were licensed to operate a vehicle.

This comes at a time a fatal road accident near the Fish Market area killed a 17-year-old boy on Saturday morning. The total death count in such cases reached 11 in 2018.

Thus far in 2019, police have launched investigations into over 100 cases relating to accidents.

Police had earlier appealed on all drivers and riders to abide by road safety regulations when travelling, following the alarming hike in accidents.
