An individual, arrested for mugging, has died in police detention.

The police on Tuesday evening revealed that a 23-year-old woman passed away at Dhoonidhoo Detention Center.

While police noted that they are investigating the incident, it did not disclose any details.

The case has been forwarded to the Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) and other relevant institutions, added police.

The center in Dhoonidhoo island is mainly used to detain suspects while they are under investigation.
