Discussions are underway to increase salaries of teachers and principals in local schools, reveals Minister of State at the Ministry of Education, Dr. Abdulla Rasheed Ahmed.

Speaking on RaajjeTV’s “Fala Surukhee” program on Saturday night, Dr. Rasheed stated that they have held discussions to bring a solution to issues in the salaries of teachers and principals, going on to assure that the ministry is ready to take steps to implement the solutions.

“The education minister highly prioritizes this matter. Quite recently, we discussed the salaries of principals and teachers. We give our assurance that we will do what we have to do” said Dr. Rasheed.

Stressing that they are facing delays in acquiring student’s activity uniforms for some schools, Dr. Rasheed stated that the ministry has given the the green light to use the previous year’s activity uniforms. These things will later be taken care of by schools to carry out through bidding.

He further stated that trainings will be held for educators this year, so as to introduce single sessions at all schools.

Dr. Rasheed added that they will be bringing amendments to the discipline policy as the ministry aims to provide education to students through good discipline.

He further said that the lack of libraries in Maldives is one of the biggest issues faced in the education system.
