Parliament to convene year's first session on February 7

Presidential statement will be heard at the sitting

The sitting will be held in Dharubaaruge

People’s Majlis has scheduled to hold it’s first sitting of the first session of 2019 on the 7th of February.

The Parliament made the announcement via twitter on Thursday, adding that the sitting will be held in Dharubaaruge.

At the sitting, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will be reading out the presidential address.

The last Parliament sitting was held on the 15th of December before it went into recess.

At the last sitting, votes had not been taken on the bills to pass amendments submitted to the pension act, to establish the bar association and the one to empower two commissions formed by President Solih to recover state assets and to investigate unsolved deaths and disappearances, as the quorum of 43 members was not reached.

President Solih as well as locals had expressed concern that the Parliament had gone into recess without passing important bills.

However, it is notable that a lot of bills linked to some of the current government’s key pledges were passed before the conclusion the last session.
