Malaysia has banned the use of Maldivian, and other foreign, driver’s licenses in the country, a statement from the Maldivian embassy has said.
The statement on Tuesday says that the ban is part of the Malaysian Transport Ministry’s efforts to revamp their regulation on the use of foreign licenses.
In Tuesday’s statement, the Maldivian mission in Malaysia advised all residents to refrain using the license and from driving without a valid permit.
The Maldivian embassy clarified that the ban stands for all foreign countries, and that the mission is in talks to come to a ‘speedy’ solution over the matter.
Only individuals with a license issued by Malaysian authorities or those that hold an International Driver’s Permit are currently allowed to operate vehicles in the country.
