Ex-President Yameen summoned to police for a second time this week
It is not clear whether he was summoned for this, or for additional questioning

Former President Abdulla Yameen has been summoned to the police headquarters again, as it continues the investigation into money laundering allegations against him.

He presented himself to the headquarters at around 2:15pm on Tuesday.

While he was summoned for questioning on Sunday as well, speaking to the press afterwards Yameen had said that he would still have to present himself to the police ‘to sign statements.’

However, it is not clear whether he was summoned for this, or for additional questioning.

In a statement released on Monday, police said that his last interrogation was over allegations of providing false information to a state institution during investigation into Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC)’s embezzlement case.

Yameen was previously questioned in December, where he revealed that he was questioned over the money deposited to his private bank account during the 2018 presidential elections campaign.

Also, in December the Criminal Court had ordered a freeze on two bank accounts linked to the former president. He has since filed a case at the High Court, seeking to overturn the order.

The former president had faced multiple corruption allegations throughout his five-year tenure, including receiving millions of dollars through Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), the company implicated in the biggest embezzlement case in the Maldives’ history.
