State had spent a little over MVR 4,000 in the first five days of the year, according to a report publicized by the finance ministry.
While President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has vowed that his administration will publicize the country’s financial status on a weekly basis, last week’s report shows that the total amount spent from January 1- 5 is MVR 4,013.
The report states that only four institutions, out of the 52, had expenditures throughout the period. They are;
- Home Ministry – MVR 2,600
- Health Ministry – MVR 1,243
- Tax Appeal Tribunal – MVR 95
- Maldives Inland Revenue Authority – MVR 75
Days after assuming office, President Solih assured that he intended to publicize the state’s financial status every week, to ‘work closely with the people and be transparent in [its} ventures.’
Maldives’ total debt was expected to reach 48 billion by the end of 2018, five billion more than end of 2017, and the president had- in his first presidential address- spoken about the country’s ‘precarious financial situation.’
