Vice President Faisal Naseem has moved into his official residence, Hilaaleege.
While the new president and vice president took oath of office in November 2018, the family of five moved into Hilaaleege on Monday evening after some renovations.
Hilaaleege was used to accommodate foreign dignitaries during former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s presidency, but was later used as the vice president’s official residence during former President Mohamed Nasheed’s.
While former President Abdulla Yameen’s presidency saw three vice presidents, his first VP, Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, had resided in Hilaleege until his impeachment through parliament in 2015.
Yameen later moved into Hilaaleege in 2016, as his private residence- where he had been residing- underwent repair work. He moved back to his home in November 2018.
An MVR 2.5 million budget has been allocated for the vice president’s official residence, while MVR 31.5 has been budgeted for Mulee-aage, where incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is residing; he moved there on November 30.
