The tourism ministry stated that cruise ships were previously only allowed to dock 2 nautical miles outside Male’, but that it had made it difficult for tourists to travel to the capital city.
The ministry stated that it made the decision to allow cruise ships to dock closer to Male’ after discussing it with the relevant authorities.
The tourism ministry has completed the two pledges it has been tasked with as part of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s agenda for his first 100 days in office.
According to the pledges, the ministry has increased the Maldives’ marketing budget to MVR 154.2 million for this year and hosted a guesthouse symposium.
