The Finance Ministry has said that it will be focusing on empowering local government councils this year.
The ministry said on Wednesday that several means to ensure this has been included in their agenda for 2019.
The ministry’s statement says that a unit for ‘fiscal decentralization’ has been established and that the government has proposed amendments to the public finances act.
The government also intends to introduce a policy under which local government councils are given funds.
