Minister of Home Affairs Sheikh Imran Abdulla has said that national unity has been affected because of political unrest.

Imran stated this in a ceremony held in Dhuvaafaru island of Raa atoll to celebrate National Unity Day on Wednesday.

The Minister stressed on the importance of the nation remaining together as one, to uphold peace and expressed hope that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s government will work to maintain national unity.

Imran further called on the people to remain as one in order to maintain a safe and secure nation. As such, Minister Imran said that religion, belief, language and culture are the pillars that maintain unity.

Also speaking at the ceremony, the Minister expressed his gratitude to the officer of the police service and the defence force for their assistance, and commended the unity they demonstrated.
