Former President Mohamed Nasheed has asked his supporters not to scorn Jumhooree Party (JP).

At a ceremony on Monday night, Nasheed, the leader of ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), asked his members not to antagonize fellow government coalition parties.

As parties make plans for the parliamentary election, Nasheed said that there was no need to mock JP and its members during campaigns.

He once again welcomed JP’s decision to contest all the parliament seats, describing it as democratic progress. He said that more candidates mean citizens can more freely choose who they wish to represent them in parliament.

He expressed his belief that the citizens will make the choice most beneficial for the country.
