The weekly youth market event organized by government will adhere to all societal moral standards, Youth Minister Ahmed Mahloof has guaranteed.

Mahloof said this on Monday in response to a tweet from local religious scholar, Dr. Mohamed Iyaz, who expressed discontent at the idea of holding ‘a weekly music show’.

In his response, Minister Mahloof said that the event is not a music show, but an initiative to foster young entrepreneurial efforts and that all standards will be upheld. Mahloof, in his tweet, had thanked Dr. Iyaz for his advice.

Iyaz, in a second tweet, had also said that he supported the current government with ‘high hopes’ and called on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Vice President Faisal Naseem, and Minister Mahloof to refrain from ‘filthy’ acts, ‘like ones displayed by the former government’.

The first ‘Hafthaa Res’ event, a serial youth market initiative, will be held on 28th December.

The event will be held near Rasfannu Beach in Maafannu ward of capital city Malé, with market stalls, events for children, and live music.

Minister Mahloof has previously said that stalls will not be given to big businesses and that the initiative is aimed at supporting young entrepreneurs and artists.
