President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met members of the Male’ City Council.

Mayor Shifa Mohamed, Deputy Mayor Shamau Shareef, and the council members met the President on Sunday.

At the meeting, the council members discussed the obstructions they have faced in their work and requested the help of the government to complete the major projects they have planned for the capital city.

The city council updated President Solih on their assessment of the construction sites in Male’, highlighting that they have made huge progress in ensuring safety at the sites with the help of the Ministry of Planning and Infrastructure and the police service.

They also discussed the public safety initiative they have been working on with the police service.

At the meeting, President Solih said the government will always work to empower them and ensured that the city council will not face obstacles in their work.

The President has pledged to give all the powers of the Male’ City Council taken by the previous administration, in his first 100 days in office. He has given back a number of responsibilities to the council and said that his government is working to amend the changes President Abdulla Yameen’s administration made to the Decentralization Act.
