Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has concluded that there is not enough evidence to confirm the police brutality case regarding RaajjeTV journalist Hussain Hassan.

RaajjeTV submitted the case against the police service for violating the Anti-Torture Act after officers arrested and assaulted Hussain while covering a protest in Male’ on February 16.

HRCM stated that they could not determine which officer had attacked Hussain and that there was not enough evidence to conclude that the police had done any intentional physical or psychological harm.

While the doctors and medical experts have confirmed that Hussain was injured, HRCM stated that it could not determine how the injuries were inflicted.

A report from the commission tasked with monitoring the February 16 protest stated that they had seen officers using force when arresting Hussain.

Also, a medical-legal report confirmed that Hussain was hospitalized for 24 hours over injuries on his chest and stomach caused by blunt force trauma.
