The Attorney General (AG) has fulfilled five out of 12 of its pledges made by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for his first 100-days’ agenda.

The AG’s office confirmed that it has fulfilled five of its pledges in a press statement on Thursday.

In the statement, AG’s office stated that they have begun reviewing the laws that were passed or amended to benefit or harm specific individuals, re-negotiating any state loans and contracts that are not in the Maldives’ best interest, changing the penal code to punish those who give bribes as well as those who accept it.

It added that they have also proposed a whistleblower protection bill and a bill to stop illicit enrichment.

The AG’s office stated that it has completed a large part of its work to draft new laws, amend existing ones, and propose the bills to parliament within the deadline.

The AG’s office has drafted 10 bills after targeting 11 laws for amendment, some of which have been submitted to parliament. They have also submitted one out of five bills to introduce new laws.

Two bills are in its final stage of drafting and the AG’s office is conducting surveys before drafting two other bills.
