A seven-year-old girl passed away on Monday after an accident at a construction site left her in critical condition.

She was crushed by a falling cement bag while crossing a construction site in capital city Male’ on Sunday morning.

The victim's parents were Bangladeshi doctors working in F. Nilandhoo.

Her family has confirmed to RaajjeMV that she succumbed to her injuries at 12:45pm during treatment at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

A family member said that after a six-hour operation on Monday, she had undergone another one-hour operation early Sunday morning.

The government has stated that action will be taken against those responsible for negligence that resulted in the accident.
