High Court to start enforcement proceedings for Hilton damages

The High Court will on Monday proceed with enforcement hearings for a Singaporean tribunal verdict on a travel business owned by government coalition partner Ahmed Siyam to pay USD 24 million to Hilton International.
The proceedings are to start on 1:45 pm. The hotel-chain sought enforcement of damages previously with the Civil Court over delay in payment, which had conceded the case to the higher court.
Hilton won its case against Sun Travel and Tours for the abrupt termination of a contract to operate the resort on Irufushi island of Noonu atoll, which deemed the initial contract void.
Further, Hilton’s case with the Civil Court for damages it suffered – which came after the contract was officially deemed void leaning towards Hilton’s fraudulent terms claim – was in Sun Travel's favour, with the judge ruling Hilton to pay a sum of USD 16 million dollars to Sun Travel and Tours, within a period of six months.
