All Maldivians stranded in Cochin, India are on the way back to Maldives.

62 Maldivians were stranded in Cochin following a technical issue with the Sri Lankan Airlines’ flight they were to travel in.

The flight was to depart to Gan International Airport after transiting at Sri Lanka’s Bandaranaike International Airport, at 3:25pm on Friday.

They were provided accommodation on Saturday night.

While the foreign ministry had, on Saturday, announced that four of the passengers had departed from Cochin that day, the remaining passengers departed on Sunday.

The Maldives consulate in Trivandrum confirmed that UL flight 166 had departed with the remaining Maldivians stranded in Cochin.

“Consulate appreciates the efforts and cooperation from Sri Lankan Airlines and Cochin Airport officials,” it added.
