The Election Commission (EC) will announce the schedule for the next parliamentary election on Sunday.
EC member and spokesperson, Ahmed Akram told RaajjeMV that they had finalized the schedule for the 2019 parliamentary election at the last commission meeting.
The Commission will announce the date at a press conference on Sunday, as well as other details regarding the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The 2019 parliamentary elections are expected to be held in March next year.
While the current parliament consists of 85 seats for 85 constituencies, two constituencies will be added for the next tenure.
All political parties are currently preparing for next year’s parliamentary elections; Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) who is to compete in all 87 constituencies is to hold its primary election on January 18, Adhaalath Party has revealed that it will compete in 13 constituencies and opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has given out party tickets without a primary to over 40 individuals.
