Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) chief Hassan Luthfee has said that he repeatedly urged the authorities to criminalize the act of acquiring illicit wealth.
In his speech at the ceremony on Sunday to mark Anti-Corruption Day, Luthfee said that the laws have numerous holes which people committing graft can slip through.
Luthfee emphasized the need to strengthen the legal system and said that the ACC is currently working with the relevant institutions to recover more than MVR 2 billion lost from the state due to incidents of corruption.
He said that ACC has received 539 cases, out of which the commission is personally investigating 203 cases.
He also said that six cases have been filed at the Prosecutor General’s office and that they have requested that 10 people be prosecuted in relation to the cases.
