The newly established Communication, Science and Technology Ministry is to be run from the NCIT (National Center for Information Technology) building in capital city Malé.

While the ministry’s offices are to be set up there, Communication Minister Maleeh Jamaal said that the NCIT is an institution that needs to be kept running but a situation for its effective operation does not exist currently.

Jamaal said that the building itself does not have the necessary infrastructure to support the employees required to keep the institution running continuously.

“Whether we look at the GEMS program, or immigration systems; NCIT employees need to work around the clock”, Jamaal said.

The NCIT building is in need of repair and parts of it has been closed off.
