Tourism Minister Ali Waheed has said that the ministry is for the citizens and will fully disclose information to the media.
In his first press conference after becoming minister, Waheed on Friday night said that it was a challenge for him to be the youngest cabinet member.
At the press conference, Waheed disclosed information on the ministry’s work in its first week, which includes holding meetings with officials of Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI), guest house association, Maldives Inland Revenue Authority, environment ministry, travel agencies, tour guide association, Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO), and the home ministry.
Minister Waheed also met with the finance minister, foreign minister, yacht agents, airport representatives, and employees of the tourism sector.
Waheed said that the ministry needs the support of the public to restart projects that have been at a standstill.
After the press conference, he visited K. Maafushi, the most developed local tourist spot, and heard the concerns of the locals and guest house businesses.
