President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has established the Committee on Releasing Political Detainees.
The committee was established as part of his efforts to release the detainees who have been criminally charged for political motives, states the President’s Office.
The committee was established on Saturday, the first day of President Solih’s term, in keeping with his electoral pledge to facilitate the release of political prisoners on the first day of office.
The committee consists of the Minister of Home Affairs, Commissioner of Police, Legal Counsel to the President, and Attorney General.
