Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem has assured that he is not at all worried over his failed bid to become the parliament speaker.
He said this in a tweet after Thursday night’s sitting where Maamigili MP and Jumhooree Party leader Qasim Ibrahim was elected as the new speaker.
In the tweet, Abdul Raheem, the deputy leader of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), said that he will still 'happily' make any sacrifices for the nation and his party as well as its leader, President Abdulla Yameen.
“My family and I will always be by President Yameen’s side.”

Qasim and Abdul Raheem were the only two vying for the position after speaker Abdulla Maseeh handed over his resignation earlier on Thursday.
In the secret ballot at Thursday’s sitting where 80 MPs were in attendance, Qasim received 62 votes while Abdul Raheem received only 16.
