The Criminal Court has dismissed the charges against former Prosecutor General Muhthaz Muhsin and ADh. Maamigili Magistrate Court’s former judge Ahmed Nihan for the alleged forging of a court order to arrest President Abdulla Yameen.

While the pair are currently serving a 17-year prison sentence over terrorism, the Criminal Court on Sunday dismissed the charges regarding them abusing their positions and issuing forged documents.

At Sunday’s hearing, the Criminal Court’s chief judge Ahmed Hailam said that in order to prove these charges, the state had presented the same evidence it had for the terrorism charges.

Since the Criminal Court has found them guilty of terrorism, the same evidence cannot be used to prove the other charges, he said.
