No 'sane person' believes the electoral results will be annulled: EC member Habeeb
Habeeb said that the elections were fair and that all evidence suggests as such
The commission is facing allegations of attempting to rig the ballots
The lawyer representing the commission in the case at the Supreme Court said that the allegations are entirely false

The 2018 presidential elections were immensely transparent and there is absolutely 'no sane person' that could believe that it was rigged, says Elections Commission member Ismail Habeeb.

Habeeb said that the elections were fair and that all evidence suggests as such. The commission member’s comments comes at a time when a case to annul the results is being heard at the Supreme Court.

The commission is facing allegations of attempting to rig the ballots using invisible ink dispensed through rings officials at polling stations had supposedly worn on their fingers. M7 Print, the company appointed to prepare ballot papers has also been accused of being implicit to said rigging.

All of the commission’s members, except for commission president Ahmed Shareef, are currently residing abroad after mounting threats on their lives and families, in the wake of President Abdulla Yameen’s loss.

The lawyer representing the commission in the case at the Supreme Court said that the allegations are entirely false and based on suspicions and assumptions, with no substantial evidence.
