B. Kamadhoo council president Ahmed Sameer has been arrested again.
Sameer was last reportedly arrested with drugs on August 31 but was released for undisclosed reasons.
Immediately after his release, Sameer began working as a senior official of President Abdulla Yameen’s presidential campaign.
He was last seen giving a speech at the PPM protest on Friday night, calling for an annulment of the election result after President Yameen’s devastating loss.
A close associate of Sameer told RaajjeMV that his second arrest on Saturday morning is also over a drug-related issue.
Kamadhoo council’s vice president Ahmed Sajid has confirmed that Sameer is in police custody, and that this has caused the council to cease its functions, as Sameer did not re-assign administrative duties or handover the keys to the council office before he travelled to Male’.
RaajjeMV was unable to contact the police service and confirm that Sameer’s latest arrest was over a drug-related issue.
