Civil Service Commission (CSC) has on Monday appointed Ahmed Latheef as the Director General of Transition.

The former Maldives ambassador to China was nominated to the position by President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Sunday.

Civil Service Commission President, Dr. Ali Shameem handed Latheef his contract at a ceremony held at the Commission on Monday morning.

Senior staff at the Commission, as well as Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s secretary general Anas Abdul Sattar attended the ceremony.

According to the Presidential Transition Act, a Director General of Transition is appointed by the Civil Service Commission.

It further notes that the Director General of Transition’s tasks includes providing office space with furniture and equipment, office supplies, staff salaries and a provision of technical experts and their salaries.

Solih’s spokesperson, Mariya Ahmed Didi on Saturday said that former Parliament Speaker Abdulla Shahid will be handling the transition procedures on behalf of Solih.
