State utilities company prohibits administrative staff from staying back past 5pm
Company's director announced this through a letter on Thursday
Administrative staff have been urged to clock out at 04:45 p.m. every day
This comes at a time reports have surfaced that authorities are attempting to destroy documents of state-run organizations

State utilities company FENAKA Corporation has informed it’s administrative staff that they will not be allowed entry into the office after 5pm.

FENAKA management had informed their administrative staff of the prohibition on Thursday, during a time that government-transitions are in progress following opposition-fielded candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s triumph over outgoing President Abdulla Yameen in Sunday’s Presidential polls.

Many employees at the state utilities company have expressed their concerns regarding the matter, especially over allegations that authorities are attempting to destroy documents of state-run organizations.

A letter addressed to administrative staff of the company, from the company’s Director Yusra Abdulla, informs the management’s decision to close the main office by 5pm every day, starting 27th September. As such, staff are required to clock out 15 minutes earlier, at 4:45pm starting Thursday.

Moreover, the letter asks administrative staff to get the required permission from the department head should they have work to complete after 5pm, and that it should be under the supervision of the department head.

FENAKA has made this decision at a time the spokesperson of President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Mariya Ahmed Didi has urged state employees to protect state documents from destruction, having called it a huge crime. Mariya, an opposition-aligned lawmaker, urged state employees to use their phone to get evidence and file complaints if such cases are witnessed.
