Former first lady departs to Addu city to join opposition campaign

Former First Lady Nasreena Ibrahim, wife of jailed former strongman Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, has on Thursday departed to Addu city to join the joint opposition coalition’s campaign event.

Nasreena, who has not been directly involved in the opposition campaign tour across the nation, is to join her first ever campaign event tonight in Addu city.

It is notable that Nasreena had not joined any of the opposition campaigns since it began and has been spending most of her time with her husband who has been incarcerated under multiple charges since the state of emergency on February 5.

While the opposition coalition’s campaign tour across the nation officially ended on Tuesday, they have for a final time departed to Addu city on Wednesday and is scheduled to travel to Fuvahmulah city as well.

In a video publicized on Thursday, Nasreena stressed that her husband, the former President has been spending all these days behind bars, ailing. Nasreena further highlighted she has approached all relevant institutions with a plea to transfer her husband to house arrest due to his worsening health condition. However, her pleas are yet to be answered by any of them.

Nasreena called on all citizens to come out in defense of their rights and cast their votes for Solih in order to save the nation from President Yameen’s tyranny, to seek justice and to bring a positive change.
