Elections Commission (EC) President Ahmed Shareef and commission spokesperson Ahmed Akram have been seen with state media PSM’s deputy managing director Mohamed Ikram, who has been actively involved in President Abdulla Yameen’s campaign.
EC chief Shareef and spokesperson Akram were seen with PSM’s Ikram at a restaurant in Hulhumale’ on Friday.
After photos of them together were publicized, spokesperson Akram said that Ikram saw the two having coffee at the restaurant and came to their table and that people greeting each other in public is not an issue.
The photos show them sitting at the same table and playing with their phones at what seems to be late in the evening.
Ikram, who is also a board member of PSM, has hosted some of President Yameen’s events and has been speaking out in support of him. He has also been seen at front row seats at President Yameen’s campaign events.
This comes at a time of increasing public distrust of EC and while there is only a week before the presidential elections.
