The police service has arrested a fifth suspect in connection to the robbery at Ensis Fisheries Company.
Police said that they arrested a 20-year-old male that ‘actively’ took part in the robbery, and that he was taken into custody under a court order on September 14.
They said that the suspect was arrested from Mulah island of Meemu atoll, ‘where he had been in hiding’, and has since been issued a 14-day remand.
Two suspects were arrested last week as well, a 23-year-old man and 25-year-old woman. They were arrested from Hulhumalé and have been give five-day remands.
While police confirmed that five suspects are currently in custody over the robbery, reports indicate that two of them were employees at the company.
A total of MVR 2.7 million was stolen in the robbery which took place on the 31st of July. The money was stolen as it was being loaded into a company van after an employee withdrew the amount from a Mauritius Commercial Bank branch in Hulhumalé.
