50 teachers from government-run Ghaazee School in capital city Male’s suburban extension Hulhumale, are being threatened for coming out in support of Joint Opposition coalition’s candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Speaking to RaajjeMV on the condition of anonymity, one of the teachers at the school revealed that a group of teachers had created a Viber group in support of Solih and that the management had pressured them, threatening them of measures when they had found out about the group. The management of the school had warned the teachers not to support Solih, and that if the teachers continue supporting him, the management would make a list of all teachers supporting the opposition candidate and send it to the Ministry of Education.

The teacher further asserted that although they are being threatened with dismissal, and even if they are sacked they will remain in support of the opposition coalition’s candidate. The teacher went on to say that the group had decided to support Solih due to the several losses incurred under the current administration’s education policies, adding that the tyranny of incumbent President Abdulla Yameen’s government will not be encouraged and no longer will the teachers endure it.

RaajjeMV was unable to attain a comment from Ghaazee School’s Principal Mariyam Mohamed on the matter as the station’s calls had been unanswered.
