Ministry grants carnival area as venue for MDP gathering
MDP requested the authorities to allow them to hold campaign events at Artificial Beach on six different days
The venue was granted to hold gatherings between 04:00 p.m. Saturday to 12:00 a.m. on Sunday
After three years, the Joint Opposition coalition was allowed to hold a gathering on the 08th of September

The Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure is to allow main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party to hold gathering in carnival area for a second time, coming Saturday.

Addressing the approval, Media Consultant at the ministry, Ahmed Fazaal stated that they had approved to provide the carnival area for the opposition party’s gathering from 04:00 p.m. Saturday to 12:00 a.m. on Sunday.

This has been granted to the opposition party at a time the party has requested authorities for a venue at Artificial Beach to hold campaign activities on six separate days before the Presidential Election slated for 23rd September.

MDP requested the authorities to allow them to hold campaign events at Artificial Beach on six different days, from the 13th to the 15th and from the 20th to the 22nd of September, from 06:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Fazaal responded to this request informing the party that the ministry will not be allowing events of any sort to be held in the Artificial Beach as development work is ongoing in the area. As such, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company has been contracted with developing Artificial Beach area.

After three years, the Joint Opposition coalition was allowed to hold a gathering on the 08th of September, for which thousands poured into the carnival area. Prominent figures and former Ministers had joined the Saturday gathering, deemed to be the biggest one of its kind in the country’s history.
