Elections Commission (EC) has on Saturday said that they have begun work to get the presidential candidates to sign the final voter registry.

While Maldives is currently preparing for the 2018 presidential elections, slated for September 23, the two candidates running are incumbent President Abdulla Yameen and the Joint Opposition’s Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

EC held a press conference to share updates of election preparations, where Commission Ahmed Shareef that the work to get candidates to sign voter registry began on Saturday, and added that it going ‘smoothly’.

The work is to continue till 6pm on Wednesday, adding that an additional time was given as ‘candidates had requested more time’.

Noting that the candidates have the freedom to choose 25 additional representatives to analyze the list, Shareef added that ‘this will be the list followed on election day’. preid
