While the Elections Commission (EC) has admitted to internal information being leaked to President Abdulla Yameen’s campaign office, former President Dr. Mohamed Jameel has claimed that EC has a ‘parallel system’ in Muliaage, the official residence of the president.
In a tweet on Sunday, the former vice president said he has received reports that the parallel EC system at Muliaage is part of the government’s wider plan to rig the election.
He urged the international community to help Maldivians secure a free and fair election, tagging India’s ministry of external affairs and the European Union council.
Alarming reports @ElectionsMv's parallel system at Muliaage as part of regime's wider plan to rig election. If true, this undermines credibility of electoral process. Int community @MEAIndia @EUCouncil must help Maldivian people secure free, fair election in face of this facade.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, Dr. Jameel said the government has taken full control of the EC and that the members should be prosecuted.
In an earlier tweet, Dr. Jameel said that ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) was greatly damaged after getting elected due to President Abdulla Yameen’s behavior and that the party can only be revitalized once it is ousted from government leadership.
