A government led by the Joint Opposition will provide an income to the island councils, says Hassan Latheef, Chairperson of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
Speaking at a campaign event in B. Dharavandhoo on Thursday night, Hassan Latheef said that the opposition coalition parties aim to create a government that serves the people.
Hassan Latheef said their government will transfer some powers of the ministries to the councils and give them more autonomy over the islands’ land, sea, and uninhibited areas, as well as giving them a cut of the profits from leases in the region.
He also said that the councils will be given assistance over the development and promotion of guesthouse businesses.
Hassan Latheef said that football is being ruined by futsal and that an opposition-led government will build actual football fields in every island and football stadiums in every atoll.
He added that an opposition government will also promote other sports as well.
