Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has begun accepting forms for the new housing scheme “Accomplished Hiyaa” introduced by the ministry in early August.

While the ministry began accepting application forms on Wednesday, they have revealed that forms will be accepted during official hours by the ministry and that the deadline is set at 31st of January 2019.

Under the new scheme, applicants can apply for a 1,000 square-foot flat from “Villimale 2” to be developed after reclaiming Gulhifalhu, or a 1,000 square-foot plot of land from Fushidhiggaru to be reclaimed for the project as well.

Application forms are available for download through the ministry's official website, as well as at the Maldives Post Limited’s head office and the post shop at Velaanaage.

According to the Ministry, applicants need to be over 18 years of age and not owners of land measuring 1,000 square feet.

Announcing the new housing scheme, Minister of Housing Dr. Mohamed Muizzu revealed that it will provide housing for 82,000 families and is to be completed within the next five years, although he did not specify a date for the commencement or the completion of the project.

The ministry highlighted that reclamation of Gulhifalhu and Fushidhiggaru will be carried out using the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC)’s dredger and that the project will be carried out in collaboration with prominent international companies. The Minister added that this project includes the development of a breakwater and roads.
