The Joint Opposition is once again seeking a venue to hold a large ceremony.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Mariya Ahmed Didi, the spokesperson of the Joint Opposition presidential candidate, said that this time they are looking for a venue while there is still time.
While the housing ministry had provided convention center Dharubaaruge for the ceremony, the ceremony was not held.
Mariya said that the ministry had only notified that Dharubaaruge was available in an email after their office closed and so they were unable to prepare. She added that they have now requested a venue to be made available some time from now.
While the Joint Opposition has requested the carnival area, the housing ministry refused, saying that it would interfere with the road development in the area.
It is noteworthy that this was the first time that the current administration has permitted the opposition to hold a ceremony in a state-owned venue.
