Presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said that the Joint Opposition will decide on whether or not Makunudhoo island should have an airport after adequate research.
The opposition candidate said this in his speech at the Haa Dhaal atoll island on Sunday night, where he said adequate research needs to be done to ascertain which service suits Makunudhoo best.
In his speech, Solih said that once elected, the unity government would work to ascertain whether an airport to be built on the island, or if a landing area for seaplanes were to be developed.
Speaking to residents of the island, Solih pledged to ensure a means by which travel to and from Makunudhoo can be done through air.
Further, Solih noted that Makunudhoo island has a high percentage of fishermen, with up to 80 percent of residents being involved in the sector, and pledged to ensure that yields are bought for prices they are worth.
In this regard, Solih pledged to have commercial facilities established on the island that would allow for the processing of fish yields.
